ST How long have you been working in the foodservice industry?

I have been working in the foodservice business since 1978. At my first job my duties included shipping, receiving, data entry, inventory control, truck driver…you name it and at some point and time I have done it. In 1988 I switched to inside sales and worked with a lot of national chains, and in 1994 I began working in outside sales. Over the years I was fortunate to work with many talented individuals - it’s easy to pick up a positive attitude when you're working with people that you respect and admire.

ST Tell us a little bit about your territory and your accounts, and why they like working with Sysco.

I currently work along the coast of New Brunswick including the towns of Shediac, Shediac Bridge, Cocagne, Buctouche, Richibucto, St. Louis, Rogersville and St. Antoine. As for the types of accounts they include everything from fine dining, to pubs, to family style restaurants. There's the Habitant Restaurant and Motel in Richibucto, the Paysan Restaurant in St. Antoine, The Bayou Lounge in Shediac, the Lobsterdeck Restaurant also in Shediac, and Gallant's Restaurant in Rogersville. Captain Dan's in Shediac is the place to be if you want to have fun and Pay De La Sagouine is a great place to view New Brunswick's Acadian History. I wish we could list all my accounts here by name because they’re all special and truly unique in their offerings.

I believe they like working with Sysco because they expect great customer service - and nobody takes that more seriously than I do. My motto is "be positive". My customers know that I want everything going out on the plate, and Sysco service, product and support are there to back it up.

ST What do you like best about Sysco Brand?

I am very pleased to be selling Sysco Brand products and I'm proud of the integrity and quality found within the Sysco box. There are so many great items in so many categories. Sometimes customers order so many Sysco Brand products that they have a hard time telling the boxes apart - that's their only complaint!- They're happy with the quality of the Sysco Brand label. And, when I give my personal guarantee to my customers it is Sysco branded.

ST How have you solved a customer problem?

I always tell my customers "Don't worry. I'll take care of it" - because I always do, and I've learned to never assume anything! Sometimes you can focus in on the wrong thing and lose sight of the big picture. About a year ago I placed a juice machine at the Lobsterdeck Restaurant in Shediac. The machine would vibrate to the point where it was annoying and after two weeks and four service visits we could not find anything wrong with the machine. In the end it was not our juice machine that was vibrating but the mini-fridge style cooler that it was sitting on, and I just happened to hear it when I was checking stock on bar mixes.

ST What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

A happy customer is the best reward, because without that we'd all be unemployed!

ST What are your goals for the future?

I would like to keep moving forward, with the new Sysco line up we are all assured of professional growth, it’s inevitable. And I haven’t forgotten where that growth comes from - my customers.

ST What do you enjoy most about working for Sysco?

Sysco gives me the tools I need to earn a living within a flexible working environment, and for that I’d like to say thank you. ¨
